In 2009 the 12 Metre World Championships for all Divisions was held in September 22 to 27, 2009. Seventeen 12 Metre yachts from around the world competed.
A 12 month series of events and regattas appropriately named "The Golden Year of Racing" commences in October of 2008. The focal point of the "Golden Year" was the 5 regatta "Golden Tour" beginning with the Newport Trophy Regatta in the end of July and ending with the 12 Metre Challenge as part of New York Classic Week in New York City.
