Silver Wings at Kiel Week: 12 Metre Legends Deliver a Spectacular Weekend of Racing
On the first Saturday of Kiel Week, tradition and high-performance sailing came together as the Classic Yachts Rendezvous brought some of the most beautiful yachts in the world to the water.
For the second year, the celebration continued with the Silver Wings – Pantaenius 12 Metre Trophy, turning Sunday and Monday into two thrilling days of pure 12 Metre racing. Under clear skies, summer temperatures of 24°C (75.2°F), and steady 10–12 knot winds, the conditions were perfect for close, tactical competition.
Six historic 12 Metres — Vim, Quiz, Jenetta, Heti, Flica II, and Anita — lined up to compete in eight up-and-down races, giving spectators a rare chance to witness these legendary yachts in full racing mode. These boats are more than classic yachts; they are living icons of international sailing history, built for power, precision, and elegance.
Race after race, the fleet delivered high-quality sport, tight maneuvers, and the unmistakable drama of 12 Metre competition. Visitors watched in admiration as these magnificent yachts crossed tacks, fought for position, and powered across the Kiel waters in one of the most exciting classic yacht events of the week.
In the end, Jenetta claimed the series victory, finishing ahead of Vim and taking home the Pantaenius Silver Wing Cup.
It was a weekend that perfectly captured the spirit of Kiel Week: history, competition, elegance, and world-class sailing.
